I have read the book The Jesus Family Tomb and carefully analyzed the statistical argument. I am a theoretical physicist with a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, and I wrote one of the leading books on the alleged "Bible code" years ago.

The statistical analysis these folks are trying to do is tricky, but it is very similar to the methods used to analyze Bible codes. I believe the calculations done in The Jesus Family Tomb are incorrect. I have redone the calculations in the way that I believe best handles the historical and archaeological evidence.

I found it EXTREMELY unlikely that the Jesus of the tomb should be identified with Jesus of Nazareth. One need not resort to theological arguments. This is a simple matter of statistics, history, archaeology, and linguistics.

I have summarized the calculations and explained the flaws in the documentary/book on my web site.

Thank you so much for the information I have read here. I am going to watch this show also and I too have alot of questions. Like - Who died on that cross on Calvary? This is really another sign of the times, I don't get angry I simply smile and say " we'll see who's right " I have lost respect for James Cameron and Simcha. I won't be watching his show anymore. I suppose Christians are somewhat used to the constant scrutiny. I'd like someone to do a special on Hinduism and see if mohammed really was born from a white elephant. That seems to me so much more believable then a man coming to earth to save us all. The people out there who are trying thier best to debunk the faith have spent more time trying to disprove it then really living it. Sorry Simcha, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Regardless of the so called scientific evidence it won't change my view. I am a born again christian and proud of it. No, christianity won't fold up, I think it may actually get stronger with all this hype. It's easy to attack christians because we don't start shooting people and threating law suits. If someone reading that is offended, Hey! this is what is happening in our world if anyone questions others faith. Jesus said they will despise you because of me. We christians are family and family stick together. God Bless
